TWICE-DAILY EXPLORATION

Game Drives

Open-vehicle drives in the Olifants West Nature Reserve, led by Themba and the guiding team.

THE HEARTBEAT OF YOUR STAY

Twice-Daily Game Drives

Open-vehicle drives in the morning and evening, led by Themba and the guiding team. Big 5 wildlife traverses the reserve freely thanks to the APNR open-system arrangement — meaning your sightings tend to belong to the vehicle that found them rather than to a queue.

Themba, FGASA-qualified guide at Sausage Tree Safari Camp

LEAD GUIDE

Themba

FGASA-qualified guide, promoted from tracker. Twenty-plus years on this specific reserve — meaning he knows this bush through fourteen consecutive seasons of guests, weather, and wildlife behaviour. He works alongside Polite (also a qualified guide) and Life (tracker).

How a Game Drive Unfolds

  1. 5:30 AM

Wake-up call & coffee at the boma fire

Pre-dawn quiet, kettle on the fire, the bush starting to wake.

  2. 6:00 AM

    Vehicle departure

Open 4x4, guide + tracker, drive through the reserve searching for the morning's tracks.

  3. 8:30 AM

    Coffee stop in the bush

Mid-drive pause at a scenic point. Coffee, rusks, the deeper silence of the bush.

  4. 9:30 AM

    Return for brunch

Back to camp as the heat builds, hot brunch waiting.
