The Safari Camp

Owner-hosted, five tented suites, max twelve guests in camp

A small camp in a vast reserve

Sausage Tree Safari Camp sits inside the Olifants West Nature Reserve, in the northern part of the Greater Kruger. Five tented suites in two tiers — three Superior Safari Tents and two Luxury Tented Suites — all en-suite, all on raised platforms, all with private viewing decks looking out into the bush. The tiers differ in interior finish and size; the daily rhythm and the guest experience are identical regardless of which suite you book. A maximum of ten to twelve guests in camp at any one time keeps the experience intimate and the hosting personal.

The camp is family-owned and run since 2012 by the Carne and van der Ploeg families — James & Sonja Carne and Deon & Tamara van der Ploeg, four co-owners in equal partnership. Sausage Tree is solar-powered, the guiding team is led by Themba, and Pitso has run the kitchen as Head Chef since the very first season. Over 3,900 hectares of traversing rights through Olifants West — including four kilometres along the Olifants River itself — open onto the wider Associated Private Nature Reserves where the fences with Kruger National Park are down and wildlife moves freely between the two.

Special occasions

Celebrate Life with the Wilderness

Birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, retirement, family reunions — Sausage Tree is a private-feeling place to mark the occasions that matter. Boma dinners under the stars, dedicated photographic vehicles for the milestone you came to capture, and the kind of pace that lets a celebration unfold rather than be programmed. Tell us what the occasion is when you enquire and we will quietly build the day around it.
