A Honeymoon Safari Under African Stars

You are on your tent deck at sunset. Your partner reaches for your hand. No schedule except the one you choose together.

This is why couples choose safari for a honeymoon — not the champagne and rose petals (though we arrange those too), but shared wonder, and the kind of closeness that comes from being fully present together somewhere extraordinary.

Why Sausage Tree for a honeymoon

The size. Five tented suites means you are never crowded. Your suite is genuinely private; the bush sounds are yours alone.

The hosts. James and Sonja, with Deon and Tamara, oversee honeymoon stays personally, with a front-of-house team that reads what “romantic” means to you — adventure, quiet, or both — and responds without being asked.

The setting. River views, sunset vantage points, the long golden morning light over the Olifants West reserve, and the Drakensberg escarpment on the horizon.

Tent 5 — your honeymoon suite

Tent 5 is one of our two Luxury Tented Suites and the configuration we set up for couples: premium bedding, sliding doors to a private deck, an outdoor shower under the open sky (a feature of every tent at camp), and sunsets over the Drakensberg escarpment that change every evening. Tell us at booking that you are on honeymoon and we arrange the suite accordingly.

What we arrange

  • A private dinner on the sky deck — candlelit, for two, with a bottle of bubbly
  • A private sunrise game drive — just the two of you, a guide and tracker, and the bush waking
  • A sunset drive to a vantage point as the day turns gold, then the night sky and nocturnal animals by spotlight
  • Couples’ arrangements through our front-of-house team

Pricing for private drives and bespoke arrangements is on the rates page; we will tailor a quote against your dates.

Best time for a honeymoon

  • May–August (dry): cool, clear mornings, mild days around 25°C, no rain — July and August book up early.
  • November–March (green): lush and photogenic, peak birding, newborn animals; hotter; ideal if you are also doing Cape Town and the Garden Route.
  • April & September (shoulder): settled, comfortable weather and balanced game viewing.

We suggest at least three nights, ideally four or five, to settle into the rhythm.

Honest about the trade-offs

A honeymoon safari gives you genuine privacy, shared wonder, and real disconnection. What it cannot promise is perfect weather, guaranteed Big 5, or total silence — the bush is alive, and that is the point.

Every booking with Sausage Tree contributes R50 to Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage.

Questions

What guests ask

Yes — with only five tents and personal owner-hosting, it is built for privacy and intimacy. The arithmetic does the work: a maximum of ten to twelve guests in camp at any one time means you are not sharing your sundowner with twenty other couples.
